Children of play therapy often have a difficult time identifying their feelings.
This play therapy game helps play therapy clients learn about and identify feelings.
During the game the child can process feelings with the therapist or counselor.
Materials for Play Therapy Game:
-Gingerbread Man cut outs (See Below)
-Tape if needed for attaching the Gingerbread Man cut outs
Directions for Play Therapy Game:
1. Before the play therapy client, or student, arrives for the session hide the Gingerbread Man cut outs around your office or room.
2. Once the student, or play therapy client, arrives ask them to join you for a Feeling Gingerbread Man hunt in your office / room.
3. Once a student, or play therapy client, finds the Gingerbread Man cut out the play therapist therapist / counselor will ask them to read it aloud.
4. An example of the print on one of the Gingerbread Man cut outs is, “Tell me about a time you felt sad.”
5. The play therapy client / student will tell about a time he or she felt sad.
6. Continue to seek the Gingerbread Man clues and have the student, or play therapy client, read each clue and identify a feeling they once had that relates to the Gingerbread Man cut out.
Extension: See “The Feeling Cookie” activity link below and replace the sugar cookie with Gingerbread Men cookies.
This play therapy game can be played individually or with a plaly therapy group.
