Sometimes, we forget to celebrate our own personal or professional successes in life. This act can hurt our self-esteem.
Quite often our self-esteem is tied to our successes in life. Sometimes we rely too much on others to make positive statements about our successes in life.
When we rely on other people for positive reinforcement, our self-esteem can suffer if we do not get enough of the positive statements. Self-esteem should be intrinsic and come from within.
This self-esteem mandala is an excellent way to celebrate our personal or professional successes in life. This activity makes us slow down and realize that we are successful in many arenas of life.
When we use the self-esteem heart mandala we see the mandala in a different way. We look for ways to show self-love to our being. This will help increase our self-esteem.
Materials: A printout of the heart worksheet below and markers.
1. Using the self-esteem mandala worksheet below, ask your client to write down five to ten successes they have experienced in the past year.
2. Discuss all the successes the client shares. Explore which ones were personal and which ones were professional.
3. Relate these successes to the client’s sense of self-worth, or self-esteem. Process how the identification of the client’s success can increase the client’s self-esteem intrinsically.
4. Have the client decorate the mandala with glitter, gems, or sequins. The client can take the self-esteem mandala home as a reminder of their personal and professional successors in life.
