Play Therapy Technique / Play Therapy Activity: Make a Castle

When I first received my assignment (Castle) for my play therapy technique of mystery counseling session, I went back out to my car and while putting my things away I saw a castle. My son's Godparents had bought him the Little People Castle at Christmas. I was excited that I already had a foundation so I started thinking about miniatures.
I thought, "what better to go into a castle than a chess set?" I had a Star Wars chess set that I thought was just perfect. I started picking our miniatures that went with my personality and realized that I was only looking at the silver pieces. I started looking at the black pieces because I know there are parts of my personality with the ability to be more on the Dark Side than the light. I won't get into those personality traits right now, but I know I have them and I embrace them so they don't control me.
After I had all the pieces and the castle, I started thinking about the reason we do Mystery Counseling Session.
I thought about what it would be like to be a school counselor in a school and a student ask for a castle. I'm not going to have my son's toy with me or much time to accomplish said castle so I rethought. I pictured a counseling room in a school and what supplies I might have. I set out to make a castle. My husband was hesitant and disbeliving but I said I would show him. I found card stock and construction paper (both things could be in the classroom) and used scissors and tape to put it together. I created a play therapy castle and asked my husband what he thought; he said, "It looks like a castle." I knew I had shocked him. I also thought about what the student could do to help with the castle. (S)He could decorate the sides and choose colors.
I only put the front on the castle prefering to leave it for the student. Also I made it so it could be easily opened up for easy access to play. I thought I did a great job and it didn't take me that long.
