Sand Tray Therapy Project: Ikebana Flower Sand Tray
The sand tray therapy project Ikebana Flower sand tray was a positive experience. I had never heard of the Ikebana flower, but I was able to easily label the pedals with my support resources that I use in my daily life. I labeled the pedals with the following: journaling, prayer, bible, family and friends, fasting, meditation, and exercise. I did not color the pedals in any special or meaningful colors, I just wanted to use bright colors since it is a replica of a flower. I choose to surrounded the flower with trees to represent future growth and protection; if the flower is surrounded by trees then no harm can come to the flower.
The pedals on the flower are very important, I have labeled them with coping mechanisms that I have learned implemented over the years. When I need clarity in my life or I am having trouble focusing I fast. For me fasting consist of eliminating or decreasing something in my life; which could be food, games, television, etc., this process can last from a week to a month. Prayer and meditation (breathing) I practice everyday; mediation allows me to become centered, to calm myself, and to escape from the daily routine of work, family, and school. Journaling and reading the bible is essential in my healing process. Reading scripture allows me to process feelings and behaviors. I have created a support system that consist of friends and family who love, support me, and give me counsel when needed. Exercise is essential to relieving my physical stress as well as assisting me in maintaining my weight and health issues.
If I were to add a pedal to the flower I would add a pedal of psychotherapy. I have grown and healed as a person by participating in my own psychotherapy and by providing therapy to others. I learn from every client, watching them process and apply their new skills is helpful.
