I was kind of unsure of what to make of my first sand tray experience. I started off building the bridge which was the first part of the assignment. I knew that the purpose of this first sand tray was to utilize the bridge in some way to show two aspects of my life. Because I do not have an impressive collection of miniatures, I was working with a very limited selection.

I did go out and purchase a few more items that I felt might be useful, but I also felt a little inhibited because I did not have the flexibility to choose from a variety of objects. I can see that having options would make it much easier to put the tray together. I decided that the first part of my sand tray would be a depiction of where I feel right now in my life most of the time; the other part of the sand tray across the bridge shows where I would like my life to be in the future.

On both sides of the sand tray therapy bridge, I picked objects and placed them in positions that I felt were true to my personal feelings. To be honest, I felt kind of weird at first trying to put the sand tray therapy thing together. This is a new experience for me, and I wanted to make sure I was being as authentic as possible as I tried to build my sand tray for sand tray therapy class training.

I am a school counselor and am not sure about the sand tray therapy thing.

After I finished building my sand tray therapy bridge, I took pictures of it from different angles, and then I took a picture that captured the tray as a whole so that I could easily see how the opposite ends contrasted.

In conclusion, I feel that this was a start for me in trying something new that I may not have ever considered, such as the sand tray therapy. At first, I could not really understand how doing something like a sand tray would be an effective form of treatment, but after doing it myself, I can see the value in using this during therapy.

I know that this is just my first experience as a school counselor using sand tray therapy and that as I continue to do this, I will become even more in tune with my emotions, thoughts, and feelings.
