The Princess and the Evil Bug Mystery Counseling Session for Play Therapy.
Client
~8 year old girl
~ Parents have been divorced for 2 years
~ Dad has a girlfriend and they are soon about to get married and move away. Dad wants daughter to move in with him
~ Mom is worried because the daughter has been showing signs of stress lately
When meeting with the client, she expresses that she loves princesses and castles. She creates a castle and then splits it in half. She puts one half on one side, and the other half of the other end of the paper. There are trees in the middle. This is the “dark forest”. She puts a crown on the top half of the castle, this is the queen and she lives alone at her castle. The other half of the castle there is a brave army man and he is standing next to an evil praying mantis. Then there is a princess is alone in the dark forest. The praying mantis tries to be nice but the princess knows that deep down she is evil. The praying mantis is taking the army man from the princess. The princess tries to save the army man, but she gets lost in the dark forest.
The castle represents her two different homes. She currently spends every other weekend at her dad’s house and every other major holiday. The crown represents her mother, and the queen is by herself because she spends a lot of time taking care of the princess and doing queen work (mom is a teacher) that she has no time for a social life. The client says the queen is lonely. The army man is her father. He is her protector. The praying mantis is the client’s future step mother. She chose the praying mantis because she is a “pest”. The praying mantis is always trying to interfere during daddy/daughter time. The princess is lost in the forest because she does not know which castle she wants to live in. She loves the queen, but she loves the army man too. She doesn’t want the queen to be lonely, but she feels she has to protect the army man from the praying mantis. The princess is sad and confused.
