Play therapy game idea:and activity: The Ball Game
Play Therapy Game: The Ball Game
The population I work with the most is children five and under. It is hard to find play therapy games or activities that are appropriate and simple enough for a three year old. I work at a non-profit agency that treats sexually abused children and I do a lot of psychoeducation.
Once rapport is built we introduce education about feelings and good touch, bad touch. My game is something that I created specifically to use with my youngest clients. It is easy to transition into and out of. It is a ball with different feeling words (happy, sad, angry, scared, etc) and touches (good, bad, confusing, scary). This can be played with just the therapist and child or in a group. The ball is rolled and the word that is at the top is read aloud (by the child or therapist depending on ability of the child).
If the word is a feeling word, the child (or therapist if it is their turn) has to tell about a time that they felt that way. If it is a touch that the ball lands on child has to tell explain what that touch is. It is a chance to educate the children, as well as see how much they know. It is also a good bonding tool for a group. Any words that may too advanced for a client can be covered up. My favorite aspect is that I have a ready-made activity for my youngest play therapy clients.
