The Choice Is Yours
Tools for Play Therapy Game:
• Twister mat
• Small marbles
Directions for Play Therapy Game:
• Can be played with 2-4 players and 1- ref
• For each spin, the player will place his or her hand or foot on the appropriate color and share a feeling.
o For the negative feelings: The player will then share what he or she can choose to do next time.
o For the positive feelings: The player will share how it felt to choose to feel positive.
• For each chosen feeling shared, the player will earn a marble.
• For each marble earned, the player wins a piece of candy.
Goal of Play Therapy Game:
• Helping the players understand that even though we cannot choose the circumstances we find ourselves in, we always have the freedom to choose how we will respond.
• The goal includes having each player move from an internal awareness to an external awareness.
• The play therapy player will understand that they can engage with their personal feelings, there are things they can choose to do to adjust their feelings, and there are things that they can choose to do to impact the world around them.
Based on Glasser’s Choice Theory and Axioms 1 and 9.
#1) The only person whose behavior we can control is our own.
#9) All Total Behavior is chosen, but we only have direct control over the acting and thinking components. We can only control our feeling and physiology indirectly through how we choose to act and think.
