Bibliotherapy in Play Therapy for Play Therapist to Use

This play therapy bibliotherapy activity involved choosing books that would help children address various feelings to include depression, divorce, anxiety, death, bullies, self-esteem, friendship issues, etc. There are two books I thought could be helpful, the first is a book called Mostly Monsterly mayormente Monstruosa. The second book is Thomas and the Big, Big Bridge. This book was about courage and overcoming obstacles.

The first play therapby book is a book called Mostly Monsterly mayormente Monstruosa is very interesting. It is written in English and translated into Spanish. For example on typical page the book would read something like, “On the outside Bernadette was mostly monterly. Right below that is the translation Por fuera, Bernadette era mayormente Monstruosa. On the another page it would read, She lurched. Daba bandazos. She growled. Grunia. She caused mayhem of kinds. Causaba caos de toda clase. This book is children accepting their differences be that ethnicity, class, religion, gender, body-type, sexual orientation, or family constellation.

The second play therapy bibliotherapy book was Thomas and the Big, Big Bridge. This book was about courage and overcoming obstacles. This book could be used to help children address issues of bullying and self-esteem. In this book Thomas is a train that is scared to travel across a new bridge attached to a new rail line. Thomas was scared because the bridge was very big, and very high in the mountains.

Bibilotherapy certainly offers another alternative to talk therapy for children. This is very effective way to have children learn vicariously through the character in the various stories. Similar to nursery rhymes when a lesson is being though children have an affinity to learn gain tremendous insight even if that is without there knowing
