Mandala as a Mirror for Play Therapy

When I created the Mandala in play therapy class, I had no plan, I just let it flow and created whatever came to me.

I felt like it was free flowing and unpredictable. The result of my Mandala left me disgruntled.

The Mandala that I designed in class appeared highly organized and well thought out. To me it seemed controlled.

I like to think if myself as a carefree person, someone who can let go and just go with the flow. I try to be worry free.

But I know that this is more of an ideal for me rather than a reality. In reality I’m not as care free.

I worry a lot, and have trouble being able to relax. I attribute it to the things going on in my life. But either way, I would like to be able to relax more and get back some of that carefree feeling I once had.

The Mandala I created at home made me laugh. It was so in tune to what I had just experienced. A few days before I created the Mandala I went on a weekend getaway to the beach.

It was so refreshing and relaxing for me. The beach seems to have shown up in my Mandala this time. I’m ok with that.

There is still that element of organization and control. Even in the flowing nature of the shapes within the Mandala.

Even in the pattern of the seashells that I glued to the paper. It all seems highly organized and “planned”. I still want to be able to be carefree and be able to relax more.

I would like for things to just happen and for me not to have to plan all the time. I want to be able to create something that just comes out and flows as a reflection of the carefree space I’m in.

I suppose that will not happen until I am actually in that space. So for now, it is just an ideal.
