Inner Child Reflection & Thoughts in Play Therapy

The inner child scrapbook for play therapy was a great experience. It was interesting because when I was growing up, I couldn’t wait to be an adult. I was a somewhat introverted child and I loved being around adults. Ironically, I had many friends. The scrapbook was fun because I was able to reflect on some of favorite hobbies. In my younger days, I loved collecting things. I collected baseball cards and old coins. I still have them at my parent’s house. The only thing I collect now are shoes (haha).
I also re-discovered my love for riding bikes in play therapy. I always had bikes while I was growing up. All of my friends would gather at my house with their bikes and we would go riding around the neighborhood. These are very vivid memories with my friends that I cherish. When I first began the inner child scrapbook, I knew I had to go bike riding in the park. That’s really the main thing I got excited about. Fortunately, one of my close friends has two bikes. We both went riding around Piedmont Park. Good times.
When I think about my inner child in play therapy class, it makes me a little sad. I feel like I’ve moved so far away from that child and I only focus on “grown up” stuff. I am learning that I am definitely not playing enough and I am way too focused on my career. I have basically shut down my “fun” self to be serious and it has not been healthy for me. I am definitely going to make a better effort at doing things that are fun. I already told my friend that we would be bike riding on a regular basis, so be ready. This was a great assignment and I grateful for my new found insight on my inner child found in this play therapy class.
