In How Children Play in the Sandtray for Sand Tray Therapy, Jill Weadick demonstrates how children play in the sandtray. In this case, her daughter is a four year old. Her daughter begins to scoop sand into a funnel, because it moves the sand around easily. Her daughter is emotionally healthy, but it is still beneficial for any child because the sand helps children connect with nature. Nature is a good way to cope with stress, and a great way to escape from stress and feel well grounded. Sandtrays potentially could be beneficial in many settings with children, such as schools and daycares. Coupled with other methods, like massage therapy can further strengthen the effect of the tray.
I found this sand tray therapy video not as helpful as others that Jill has released. It is nice seeing the daughter play in the sand, but I feel like I did not learn very much at all from it. Maybe if she had explored how her daughter was feeling, it could have been more beneficial.
