Sand Tray Therapy Zen Garden: Therapist should have this in the office.

Sand Tray Therapy Zen Garden: Therapist should have this in the office.

I began making my Sand Tray Therapy Zen Garden on a day that I was feeling both stressed and overwhelmed. Once I was able to fully let go of how I was feeling and fully indulge in the creation of my Sand Tray Therapy garden, I began to realize how calming and relaxing it was.

I have always played with Zen Gardens located in miscellaneous offices and places of business, and because of this I was excited to make my own. I really enjoyed this assignment due to the fact that I love to build, create and make things from scratch. I constructed my garden using items around my house both inside and out.

I constructed my sand tray therapy garden using an old shoebox top, rocks, twigs and leaves and flowers. I placed a cross in the middle to represent my spirituality. After my garden was complete I sat back and thought about why I choose the items in which I did. The only explanation that I could come up with was that in my mind the above mentioned are all items that I felt naturally belonged in the garden.

When I think of a Zen Garden I think of the relaxing parts of nature so after sitting on my patio and thinking about it for a while I knew exactly what to place in my garden.

While combing over my Sand Tray Therapy garden with a plastic fork that I used as a rake, I was reminded of my childhood and how much I enjoyed playing in the sandbox. Thinking back on my childhood I can recall bringing different toys into the sandbox in order to build different things with the sand. The sandbox is where my imagination came to life.

This could be one of the reasons why I found myself enjoying my Zen Garden. On the other side of this, I was also reminded of how much I miss the sandy beaches of South Florida. I feel that the only thing missing from my garden is some soft relaxing music. In the near future I would like to purchase a Zen Garden that I can use to help clam myself when feeling stressed out and overwhelmed.
