What Would "Frosty the Snowman" Say?

Let's imagine that Frosty the Snowman was being bullied or picked on by another student at his school. What would he do? What would he say? Frosty has one of the kindest hearts around and he really wants to just be kind and not hurt people. Frosty would use his "emotional intelligence" and say something kind back to the bully or mean teaser.

You can practice doing "The Frosty" by following the steps below. Remember, you are not going to allow the bully to get you upset, nor are you going to just ignore the bully.

Bullying Prevention Coping Skill for January

Frosty would smile a giant smile and say, “Happy Birthday” if he was being bullied or picked on by someone.

 If your child is being picked on have them practice “The Frosty” bulling prevention coping skill below:

Directions:

  1. Role play with your child. Tell your child to say something mean to you that was once said to them. Let them know you understand that they are just role playing and actually do not mean it.
  2. When your child says something mean to you give a giant smile and look them in the eye. Say in a big, loud, happy voice, “Happy Birthday” and then walk away.
  3. Now, ask your child to switch places with you. Your child will play the “target” and you will play the “bully / mean teaser”. Make sure you are not saying curse words during the role play.
  4. Have your child practice in front of the mirror several times. It is important to make sure that the body language and eye contact is appropriate. Stand up straight and proud and speak loudly. Walk away immediately after saying “Happy Birthday”.
  5. Review the other bullying prevention coping skills with your child. Try to come up with different bullying prevention coping skills that you can use for different situations.

Unfortunately, bullying prevention is basically a game. The winner of the game does not get upset or flustered (at least they don’t show these traits).  

Make sure you have a come back that is emotionally intelligent and will not get you in trouble for bullying someone. You are smarter than the bully!
