Bridges - Sand Tray Therapy Training for therapist to try!
I created three sand tray therapy bridges (as I often find myself creating things in threes). Each bridge is unique. Two of the bridges are made primarily with popsicle sticks and one with toothpicks. The three bridges correlate to the following motto that I created for my life: “Live life without anxiety. Love self and others. Laugh to create meaningful memories.” The first popsicle stick bridge, void of color yet study with rails is equivalent to “Live life without anxiety.” This bridge has a solid foundation and lots of support with a narrow tunnel. It is symbolic of keeping my eyes on the prize (towards my future goals), holding on during challenging times, and allowing any restless anxiety to fall through the railing. It serves as a bridge to move away from allowing stress/anxiety to build up and walking/flying (via the butterfly) towards making a daily practice of utilizing assertion and stress management. The second bridge is flat, wide, and colorful (i.e., yellow, green, purple). This bridge represented “Love self and others.” It took me a long time to learn how to love and accept myself fully. This is an honor, and I it value each day! Purple is my favorite color and it represents the love that I have for myself. Purple is on each of the outer sides because I must step on it first and last (i.e., love myself first and in the end). Green represents love for others and is dispersed in the middle of the bridge. Yellow represents love in its simplicity, abundance, and availability throughout the world. I chose not to add railing to this bridge because true love supports itself and avails all. The last bridge is made of toothpicks and is quite tiny (in comparison to the other two bridges). It represents “Laugh to create meaningful memories.” Its size has no correlation with its power, as a small dose of laughter can change a moment, a life, and a world! Ironically, I chose this one to represent laughter because I laughed at how small it turned out to be due to my unwillingness to continue feeling frustrated while clipping the ends of the toothpicks. I refused to throw it away and instead chose to make meaning out of it. (How awesome did that fit in my life motto?!) The muscle man is bent over to represent the strength that I can accumulating in my body, as I completed an adventure 5k race this weekend and had fun while also testing my bodily strength (and cascading backwards over a 4-5 foot wall by accident).
