Daily Smiles Behavior Chart Game Directions:

This behavior chart is designed to be played as a game with children who are in kindergarten through 2nd grade. The theory behind this behavior chart game is that children like to play and learning to follow the rules can be fun. This behavior chart game is a positive way to teach behavior management.

Teachers can offer this game to students who are struggling with behavior at school. The teacher should break up segments in the day to determine how many stiles are needed. Free spaces are given to allow the child to feel successful at the beginning of the day. Make sure you highlight the “Free Spaces” at the beginning of the day.

The teacher should highlight each segmented smiley face after the student has shown success based on the goal. The student either earns a highlighted smile, or the smile is left blank. It is best to avoid unhappy faces or straight faces for this game. Extra space is provided for teacher comments in the game chart or at the bottom of the paper.

There is also a chart for weekly data collection for the teacher to track daily starts and keep in a file for R.T.I. data collection. Only send the daily smiley face game chart home to the parents or guardians.

The key to using this game is consistency. The teacher should fill out the smiles after each segment in the day. Reminders of the goal and reward should also be stated throughout the day as well as positive statements. The goal can be changed once mastery of the goal is completed. The reward should change each week to keep the game new and exciting in the eyes of the student.
