Anger Management Tray Therapy Tray by Student #5
I went into this anger management sand tray therapy assignment thinking about it too deeply. Once I began placing miniatures into the sand, everything came together. After completing the sand tray I sat back to really analyze and try to interpret my tray and I immediately saw that my sand tray was an exact representation of how I handle my anger. I am a person that does not enjoy arguing or confrontation. In fact, I hate it. Often times when I become angry or upset about something I bury my anger deep inside and try not to focus on it. This at times can be unhealthy because it sometimes causes me to over react to simple things, because I have allowed all of my anger to bottle up. This can cause my anger to become unsafe because everything may explode at the drop of a dime. I try to replace my angry thoughts with positive and happy ones which is represented in my sand tray by a butterfly, a cross, a stallion, a happy face, a purple “warm and fuzzy,” and the sunrise surrounding my anger.
As you can see in the photo of my sand tray, I have placed all of the miniatures that I feel to represent my anger in the middle of the try. My anger is represented by army men with guns drawn, a scorpion, dinosaurs and a monster. All of the angry miniatures are surrounded by a gate and partially buried in the sand. The anger is locked away. Surrounding the angry miniatures is a circle of happy miniatures representing my thoughts of peace and happiness that I tend to replace my angry feeling with.
In building this sand tray I realize that I need to find healthy outlets to my anger rather than holding everything in.
