This sand tray therapy activity is a great way to get your client thinking of the special treats, rewards or joys of personal life.
I use this with my sand tray therapy students at the beginning of the semester. It lets them focus on the positive parts of their life before we move to more difficult sand trays.
It can also represent childhood pleasures that need to be brought back to the sand tray therapy client’s life.
Materials for Sand Tray Therapy Activity: Bon Bon Box Worksheet Below
Scissors Markers or Paint sand tray
Assorted small candy or Strips of colorful paper
Directions for Sand Tray Therapy Activity:
1. Ask the sand tray therapy client to cut out and decorate the Bon Bon box below. Decorate it if desired and tape the sides together.
2. Ask your sand tray therapy client to take the assorted candy (Or you can use paper to cut out candy shapes) and use the candy to represent the good things in life.
3. After each candy is identified as something good in the client’s life (past, present, or future) drop the candy in the Bon Bon box.
4. When the sand tray therapy activity is completed tie the box with a pretty ribbon and allow the client to take the box home.
5. Move to the sand tray and have the sand tray therapy client create a sand tray therapy world based on the good things they represented in the Bon Bon box. They can even put the Bon Bon box in the sand tray and use it as a miniature.
