Jungle Sand Tray Therapy Class

I love the jungle so this was very exciting for me to do in my sand tray therapy class. Even though I have never been on a safari, except for Disney World, I felt like I was really there. I picked my main animal to be a zebra. I love the colors and uniqueness of them. I see many traits similar in myself. My father always told me not to be a follower. I interrupted that statement as be “different and stand out”. This of course comes with a price. Some will view this as fun and excited sharing lots energy. Others may put a spin on it and single uniqueness out like a plague. I do not like to conform unless it is for the safety of myself or others. I start to feel oppressed when I am under rules and regulations at all times.
I also brought in a tiger, camel, giraffe, monkey, and elephant. I believe all animals and people need others for companionship. When I made this scene outside the tray I had no other animals. I noticed right away the loneliness. I quickly added them when I transferred the plate to the sand.
I used feathers, sticks, leaves, and blue water to feed the animals. I created a beautiful world for all the animals to grow together in peace. I know that many of these animals would not in this world get along. The zebra is prey for the tiger and lions. Even though it is a large animal, it is still vulnerable. I can feel that way often too. I like the passage that says, “one day the lamb will lie with the lion”. This is the world that I created. The animals in the jungle have taught me humbleness and submission is needed sometimes to survive.
The Dream Dictionary states that the zebra is an animal that represents perfect balance, unity and harmony. This is exactly the picture that I was trying to display. It also says that the zebra can be an indicator that opposites attract. This is also so very true. My husband and I could not be more polar opposites. Lastly, it states that the symbol of the zebra can mean that you are trying to escape a bad relationship or situation. I know that I struggle with that sometimes. This was the most enlightening tray I did for my journey during sand tray. This is was good lesson to open my eyes to something that has only been in my subconscious.
