The Play Therapy Doll House: House of Feelings is an interactive play house that allows the child to re-create their current environment. This activity is ideal for kinesthetic learners as the child can use Play Dough to design the room. Additionally, it creates an opportunity for the therapist to build a repoire. The goal of the activity is to help the child express his feelings about an incident that occurred in the home, allowing the therapist to gain insight on the situation.

Step 1: Assess the current emotions of the child by allowing him/her to select a sticker from the “My Sticky Feelings” area.

Step 2: Orient the child to the house. Ask the client what room in the house does he/she want to re-create.

Step 3: Have the child select play therapy miniatures or create additional pieces of furniture using the Play Dough.

Step 4: Ask the child how that child feels when entering the room. Have the child choose from the 4 colors to best express his/her feelings. Process with the client:
What made you choose that color?
Can you show me what happened inside this room to make you feel that way?
Why did you choose this miniature?

Step 5: Ask the client if he/she had magic and could change the situation, how would it be different. Give the child the Magic Wand and let him/her re-tell his/her story.

Step 6: Reassess the current emotional state of the child by allowing him/her to select a sticker from the “My Sticky Feelings” area. Process with the client why his/her feelings did or did not change.
