Reconnecting with my Inner Child for Play Therapy

This project in Play Therapy Class consisted of creating an Inner Child Scrapbook from ten main ideas, based on childhood favorites. Since I had a great family and friends to support me growing up, I truly enjoyed revisiting my childhood past. Writing a letter of apology seemed awkward at first, however, I now realize the therapeutic value and how it can be a source of "self-talk."
Choosing a play date and a weekly childhood activity for the play therapy assignment were easy for me, because I was always very active. I used to ride my bike for miles, growing up in rural Illinois, where safety was not really an issue. My grandparents lived two miles from our home, so I would ride up to visit them frequently. Since I was the oldest of three, we always had a swing set around to play on. I used to love going to the park where I could swing and slide on the much larger play sets.
At some point in time, I believe every little girl dreams of someday being a princess, a Homecoming Queen, or a bride. During my 10th grade year of high school, I got to be on the Homecoming Court, and following college graduation I enjoyed being a bridesmaid for three of my best friends, and then of course, my own wedding : ) Prince Charles and Princess Diana married close to when my husband and I did, and most recently their son had his royal wedding; therefore I have been a "royals" follower for some time now.
My two favorite pages were my "dream birthday party" and "my special inner child place". I have always been a people person, so I naturally love parties. Since eating, swimming, and music are my favorite past times, it only makes sense to combine them all into an all day pool party. Also, I used to spend countless hours up in our home made tree house with my neighbors, brothers, and sometimes just myself.
Growing up on a farm, I have always loved pets, gardens, flowers, and the great outdoors. So for me, I would rather go to a pet store than to a toy store, in order to choose a present (either a puppy or a kitten). I used to have an extensive Barbie collection, and even though I used to do pastels in school Art Contests, I prefer living art...such as flower gardens. The best part of this play therapy project was sharing it with my husband and sons; they now know much more about my childhood memories and activities.
