Practice Play Therapy With
The Mystery Counseling Session
Play Therapy Activity Objective: Practice your creative play therapy skills by making one of the below objects from scrap materials you have around the home or office. Do not purchase any materials to make this object.
The reason this is good practice is that when you get a client in need of some creative play therapy, you can make any object in a short amount of time.
A creative counselor and play therapist can whip something up in no time in order to benefit the client.
For my play therapy class I give each student an object to create in class with limited supplies. One of their midterm projects is to create (at home) a replica of what the client has a need to work with.
Below are some actual objects I ask my students to create. I cut this paper with the name of one mystery counseling objects on it. I then ask students to pull one piece of paper with the name of the object from a basket. They are to create a replica of whatever the object is on the paper.
In Play Therapy 101 my students have several weeks to make the replica of the object. In real life creative counseling, you might have ten to twenty minutes to create the replica for the client.
Make sure you have plenty of scraps of paper, cardboard, art supplies, paint, glue, scissors, etc. on hand to use to create a replica of a time, place, or object for or with the client.
Below are just a few ideas of replicas you might have to recreate for a client.
