A Yummy Play Therapy Activity: The Feeling Cookie

I have Spring Fever! I am excited about the transition of the season and what that means for me. Not only will I be graduating, but I will be able to do more outside activities, wear flip flops, and shed my heavy sweaters. I created a play therapy feeling cookie that represented all of the emotions and anticipation of the spring season. I chose a lot of pastels like yellow and lavender. I love yellow roses and lavender automatically reminds me of sun dresses. At the time I created my cookie, I wasn’t feeling excited or happy but rather dwell on the negative emotions, I chose to create a play therapy feeling cookie that reflected what I wanted to feel. In creating the play therapy feeling cookie, I did begin to manifest some of the positive emotions that I wanted and left feeling more hopeful. I initially thought it was strange to eat the cookie, but eating the play therapy feeling cookie reminded me that emotions are temporary. Though we may feel blah right now, we are one bite away from feeling bliss.
When participating in the various activities, I try to look at how I can use this with an adult. This activity would be ideal for the initial meeting of a group where everyone is still uneasy and trying to figure out if they belong. By doing a play therapy activity that is more tactile and fun, I would think it would help alleviate some of the pressure and anxiety that a new member would feel.
